Planning a Niagara wine tour by chauffeured vehicle

A day among the wineries is far more relaxed when nobody has to drive. Here is how to plan one from Toronto.

Why use a chauffeured vehicle

A wine tour usually means several tastings across a day. With a chauffeured vehicle, nobody in your group has to be the designated driver, and the group travels together from the first pickup to the last drop-off. It also removes the stress of parking and navigation between estates.

Choose your day carefully

Weekends and the warmer months are popular, so enquire early if you have a fixed date. Think about the length of the day: travel from the Toronto area to the Niagara region takes time and depends on traffic and your starting point, so allow for it when setting your start and finish times.

Match the vehicle to the group

A day of travel is more comfortable with room to spread out. A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter carries up to eight passengers, a Ford Transit up to ten, and a Lincoln Navigator Stretch up to fourteen. For larger groups, ask about the Ford F-550 Party Bus, which carries up to twenty-two.

Build a realistic itinerary

It is tempting to fit in as many wineries as possible. A better plan is fewer stops with time to enjoy each one, plus a break for lunch. Check each winery's opening hours and whether tastings or tours need to be booked ahead, and share the list with your provider so the route can be planned sensibly.

Arrange the details in advance

  • Confirm every pickup address and time, including any guests joining from a different location.
  • Decide on the hours of service and the final drop-off.
  • Ask what happens if the schedule changes on the day.
  • Confirm the total price and the cancellation terms in writing.

Combine the day with other plans

Many groups pair a wine tour with a visit to Niagara Falls. If that is your plan, tell us when you request your quote so the day can be planned around both. See our wine tour transportation page and our Niagara Falls tours page for more.
